Cycling Around Mount Fuji

Note that this photo is a posed shot. You are supposed to cycling anti-clockwise around the lake! Haha If you are deciding between taking the train to Kawaguchiko or driving, you can check out the car rental prices at   https://www.nipponrentacar.co.jp/english/user-guide/reservations.html   and train prices at   http://www.hyperdia.com/ It depends on whether you’re staying overnight at Kawaguchiko and the number of people travelling. Remember to add toll fees of about ¥4200 one way. We decided to rent a car but forgot about the toll fees so it ended up being more expensive. I’d say if you’re staying for one night and there are at least 3 of you, renting a car is a good option. If there are two of you and you want more freedom to move around (such as going to neighbouring places like Oshino Hakkai, Chureito Pagoda, Yamanakako etc) it is also better to rent a car. Yokohama with Kids: Cup noodles and soaking in the Christmas atmosphere at Akarenga

Yokohama is a convenient day trip since it’s less than an hour away by train. Take the JR train to Sakuragicho and you can walk to most of the attractions. Here's a video of what we did with the descriptions below.

Nissin Cup Noodles Museum

Nissin cup noodle museum is a fun place for both kids and adults. For ¥300, you can customize your own cup noodles. You start by buying a cup at one of the vending machines, then you sterilize your hands, decorate your cup, add the noodles, choose the stock and 4 ingredients, get it sealed and you can bring it home in a air cushion. It’s a great family activity too. You may also try making chicken noodles which takes 90 mins. Advance reservation for the chicken noodle course can be made here.

Akarenga - Tachibana Omu Rice

For lunch, we had omu rice at Tachibana, one of the stalls in the food court at Akarenga. My nieces thoroughly enjoyed watching the skillful chef cook and flick the omelette onto the rice!

Akarenga - Christmas Market

Visiting a Christmas market in cold weather is a totally different experience. Huddled together eating fries, sausages and drinking hot soup is just so satisfying.

Akarenga - Ice Skating

I had planned for my nieces to try ice-skating at Akarenga but my typically Singaporean brother advised against it for fear of injuries. It would have been rather fun for the kids I thought.
